WIPW - Ready to Make a Sandwich

Work in Progress Wednesday:

Greeting Card

 I made another birthday card of a floral basket. Wool embroidery with a smattering of Perle.

 

Trinity Green

 I went shopping to get wadding and quilting thread.
I pressed the quilt top.
I pressed the back.
I am ready to make a quilt sandwich and start basting the three layers together.

      Actually Barbara, with the weight of the paper backing removed the quilt top is now rather light!

    Goodness, that basting will be a long job! Little things like the basket of flowers will make a good change of pace..

      Believe it or not, I finished the sandwich making and basting (sounds like a cooking blog) before midnight! If I had updated my blog it would have been another WIPW ticked off the list.
      Now I am wondering when my back and knee aches will set in? 'Cooking' a bedside quilt on the floor is not comfortable!

      Thank you, I think though that the flower basket is a bit crowded. It was a work done in haste.
      Yes, I am pleased to have done the preparations, but I am even more pleased to have completed the sandwiching and basting!!!!

      Hi Jenni,
      Thank you. I will machine quilt the entire quilt, in the ditch and a bit of free motion quilting. This will be a totally new experience for me. Wish me luck!

    Wow, you have made a lot of progress. I usually use safety pins to hold my quilts together before quilting. Having to to hand stitch them just isn't my thing. This will lend itself to stitching in the ditch. Do you have a walking foot? I find that works the best for me.
    Love the card.

      I have often used safety pins in the past, but fear they will be troublesome when I machine quilt this large quilt, hence thread basting by hand.
      Yes, I have a walking foot and a free motion foot, too. I will have to practice before I start work on the quilt itself, though.

      Yes, it is always fun to take out the TAST stitches (or SSS stitches) and use them for flowers and greenery.

      I don't know if you ever find anything hard, but some of your repetitive embroidery on yokes might be tedious. So I think you understand how glad I am to have completed the basting.

    Love your basket of blooms. I'd say a generous basket, not over-crowded at all. It's good to see a group of individual stitches this way.
    I wish you peace and stamina in basting the large quilt. You will be rewarded for your patience in the many months of work.

      You have such a great ability to turn anything negative into positive - a generous basket, eh?
      The quilt is basted, did it in one evening and I am SO glad to have it done.

      Basted in only one evening??? Goodness, your fingers must fly. I'm pleased for you that, that part is over. I hope the machining goes without many, or indeed, any hic-cups.

      The batting is very thin so the sandwich was not so bulky, but I was worried that my knees and back would suffer the strain the next day. However, I have not had any physical problems, apart from a slight stiffness.
      Last night I practiced a bit of machine quilting and will start on Trinity Green tonight.
