Friday Revision Homework - Stitches 21 - 25

It's lucky that Sunday Stitch School runs evening classes and I can hand in my homework late at night. Although I finished the Sunbonnet Sue sampler in time, it has been one of these days and it it not until now, past 10 pm Tokyo time, that I can show my summery of stitches.

The homework was for a seasonal Sue. The rainy season is on in Japan and that is why Sue is hiding her face underneath an umbrella - Sunbonnet Sue ought to be called Umbrella Sue.

Whipped Running Stitch was used for the outlines.

Upright Cross Stitch works well as a filling stitch, both on the teaser (the Wellington boots) and on the hand, where I staggered the stitches.

The Y Stitch with its loop made good raindrops, I think.
The Vault Stitch was a challenge to do on the plain weave.

    1. Yes, aren't they?! They took time to stitch, though!

  3. Perfect! Very cute and appropriate for the season. We've had one day of rain (Wednesday) but it was incredible! We had about seven days of rain in one. More rain is predicted for next week though.

    1. The situation has been the same in Tokyo. Today is the last chance to do all those things that are best done without rain - bulk shopping, quilt washing, jogging or just sitting outside enjoying the hydrangeas or gardenias.

    2. Such a gorgeous little embroidery and the boots are .....well I wish they were mine to flaunt in public.

    3. I, too, would swop them for the sludge green ones I have. Not very stylish in the metropolis!

    1. Yes, they are 'sun boots' rather than rain boots!

    1. Her boots are certainly more stylish than mine - they are green like pond slime but they do keep the rain out!

  7. I like that vault stitch on her dress border and those colorful boots. Good going ... even late at night. I have to admit the work I took to camp didn't get done once the scouts arrived,

    1. The edge of her raincoat was the best place for those Vault Stitches. They were a bit tricky on the plain weave - no obvious holes to place them evenly in.

  8. Love the boots—the colours and stitch combination create the effect of tartan. We could do with some rain here in Kent, it's been very dry of late, the watering cans are wearing out with so much use.

    1. I was thinking of tartan when I stitched the boots.
Here in Tokyo there is no rain today, but the air is heavy with moisture and it is hard to breathe as if there is not oxygen. The plants don't really need to be watered, they drink from the air!
I hope you get rain at night and sunshine during the day - you can enjoy the beautiful wether without having to water the garden!

As long as there is one stitch that can be used for the outlines, it is great fun to think up how to use the others.

    1. Thank you. Your comment has brightened up a 'real' rainy day. It is very dull and extremely humid in Tokyo - typically for the rainy season.
