There are too many mistakes to show an enlarged picture! Instead of using the measurements in Mary Thomas's book, I should have adjusted the stitch to fit perfectly into this square. Then, the stitch would have looked different, though.
Anyway I have completed the homework and I am pleased with the look, and just hope no one ever holds up a magnifying glass to see in detail.... all the flaws!
Now this is an invitation to dance (do you know the music by Carl Maria von Weber?)- respectivley for enlarging and looking for mistakes - don't be afraid: I can't find anything.

The PATTERN is lovely, and worked on proper stiff canvas with lower count would be lovely to work, too.

DeleteHey, I have a really neat magnifying glass in the shape of an owl ... thing is, I probably wouldn't recognize a mistake if it hit me in the eye.

Deleteyour vault stitch makes a nice filling stitch. I did not work this stitch as a filling but surprisingly the same colour combination was used on my sampler too. it is hard for me to keep track of the direction of the last crossing thread!
ReplyDeleteI found it hard to keep track of the direction, too, especially on the fabric I worked on. It was much easier on Aida.
DeleteIt looks lovely, and I'm quite sure (because I've worked Vault stitch) that even with a magnifier I wouldn't see any mistakes.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that I am working canvas stitches on a non-canvas cloth. It is too floppy and the thread digs into the intersections of the warp and weft and hides behind the weave. You think you put the needle in the right hole and then find you have mistaken. Or the other way round, correct a mistake and then realize it was right from the beginning!

As long as you know where to insert and exit the needle (Aida is a good kind of fabric with easy to see holes) the stitch is very easy. If the fabric is too fine or too lose (limp) you can easily get lost.

ReplyDeleteIt must be because of your failing eyesight. After the operation I will have to be very careful of what I show to you. A friend in the UK who had both her eyes done, saw every speck of dust in the house and was a bit disappointed by the success of the surgery!!!
