Hello and welcome to today's lesson at Sunday Stitch School.
Here is a stitch from the Cross Stitch family - the Ermine Stitch. Apparently it got its name because it resembles the tail of the ermine.
Swedish name: Hermelinstygn
French name: Point d'hermine
Do you know any other name in English or in your language? If so, please leave a comment below.
It is worked like this:
On Aida:

Use the Ermine Stitch in a creative way!
(I can already see it blossoming together with Lazy Daisy Stitches, turning into snowflakes or stars in the sky....)
this is such a useful stitch I too know it as ermine stitch
ReplyDeleteIt is fast and fun, too. I should have learned it much earlier!
DeleteBeautiful stitch queenie.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is fun and easy, too!

Thank you for the French name of this stitch. I will update the blog post.
DeleteVery simple and lovely stitch.
ReplyDeleteIt's fast, too!
DeleteO yes, ermine stitch is such a lovely stitch to play with.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you have made several creative samplers with the Ermine Stitch! I will have go and check.
DeleteIt reminds me of twinkling stars.
ReplyDeleteMy instant thought, too.
DeleteI didn't know about this stitch, but I really like it. I think it will be nice along a CQ seam.
ReplyDeleteIt might have been hiding among other Cross Stitch variations. With the contrast you add in the length and angle of the cross the more or less like an ordinary Star Stitch it looks.
DeleteI am a couple of days late seeing what your next lesson is, a stitch that can be used in many lovely ways.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right! Go on get creative with Ermine!
DeleteI like a fast stitch, must try to remember about this one.
ReplyDeleteIt is FAST and RHYTHMICAL. Give it a try.
DeleteA simple effective stitch.
ReplyDeleteI think it can be used for all sorts of interesting designs.
DeleteThis is a nice stitch, I think that I have seen it before in my book, I will have to see what they call it.
ReplyDeleteIf your book is in English, then it will probably be called Ermine Stitch. I think it would look good embroidered on knitting, too.
DeleteThat's a beautiful stitch, done in a group it adds a lace, glittery look.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am sure you are right. It can be used for filling a large area, maybe by mixing in a lot of different colours.
DeleteWow! That looks a nice easy stitch! Wish I'd known that when I stitched the stars on my Christmas bag ..... I shall be looking to us that one very soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Queenie.
Hugs, Barbara xx
It IS an easy stitch, and perfect for stars!
