Trinity Green
I have stitched 128 pieces, and the total number of triangles is now 5.238.
Fabric in Focus
Does this turquoise/purple count as 'green'? Well, I had a small piece, just enough to make four triangles and added them to Trinity
Green. The fabric was the sample scrap (for testing washing or darning) that came together with some spare buttons in a small plastic bag with a blouse I once owned. It was a
Kansai Yamamoto designed blouse. His avant-garde fashion is sparkling with energy and colour. The blouse is no more in my possesion, but the fond memory remains.
Birthday Gifts
Last week I teased you with some blurred photos.
One of them is of this birthday gift table cloth I made to go with a vase.
The motif on the vase was copied and worked in DMC Metallic thread. The edge is a commercial braid in metallic thread.
During the weekend I made a tote bag, also a birthday gift.
The coffee cup is paper pieced and the cord is a kumihimo braid.
Lovely gifts and great progress with the green triangles. It's amazing how colors look different depending on what surrounds them.
ReplyDeleteGood observation. The same green can look totally different when next to a light or dark one, or a warm or cool green.

DeleteSo mush work Queenie! That feature fabric looks just right stitched in place and I bought a template to make that braid but I haven't got around to using it as yet.
ReplyDeleteI just happened to have a piece of fabric that would look good with the vase, the back has a blue and gold print so it COULD be used on either side.
DeleteMy Kumihimo disc has been slumbering for a long time. It is very relaxing to braid these cords.

ReplyDeleteHave you ever used DMCs metallic floss? It is hard to work and you have to cut very short lenghts as the strands fray easily.

The turquoise/purple goes perfectly with the greens.
Thank you. Although I like the glitter and sparkle of metallic floss I hardly ever use it as it is such a difficult thread.
DeleteOh, I love all those projects. I need to copy your bag design for my lunch bag. Those purple and turquoise bits set the rest off nicely. I think with so many of those triangles, no one is going to be able to pick out just one and say it doesn't fit.
ReplyDeleteThe coffee cup design comes from a book with paper piecing patterns for 'Cups and Saucers' and other pieces of china.
DeleteThere are so many greens and greenish shades that other colours will just add a bit of pizzazz.
Wow! I am still in awe of all of your triangles! The table cloth is gorgeous. You did a beautiful job of copying the design and matching colors. The tote bag is wonderful, too. Fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteI think it took longer to calculate and draw the design on the vase than it took to stitch it! Luckily I have a template with circles in various sizes and managed to make the five circles in a wider circle.
DeleteGreat progress queenie. The turquoise/purple doesn't make so many difference. You find a good place for those pieces. Other projects are also beautiful. I don't like to work with metallic thread. I will get frustrated of those threads getting tangled often.
ReplyDeleteI think with metallic thread, or indeed any that fray easily, it is good to have a thick needle that will make a wide hole for the thread to pass through easily. Then you have all those big holes...

Deletethe vase mat is beautiful! I like the idea of making kumihimo cords for draw-string bags, I'd never thought of that!
ReplyDeleteI did not make the cord especially for THIS bag, I had it in my stash. It works nicely as a draw-string, just thick enough and perfectly 'coarse' to hold the opening closed. By chance the colours co-ordinated with the pattern on the coffee cup!

DeleteBeautiful gifts! I've never used metallic floss, for the reasons you mentioned ..... you made a great job of the flower! Thank you for the useful tip, I will try to remember to use a larger needle for difficult threads in future! Love the coffee cup .... great colours! I think it was a great idea to add such a different colour to "Trinity", it really lightens the quilt giving it an extra pop of colour!

DeleteThe coffee cup and background, are made in the colours of the Swedish flag. The bag was made for someone from Sweden who is a real coffee lover.
Beautiful gifts!!! And very thoughtful - the metall-thread-stitched flower together with the vase. And good luck for the continuation with the finishing Tasty work of stitches (which normally is not very much loved....at least not by me).
