Pile 'em On
A short string of 'terry cloth yarn' was added to the circle (along the border, it's light blue).
A tiny section of a flame was decorated with pulled work in free style stem stitch.

Fruity Cushion
The couching is almost completed. I will soon start adding other stitches.

I thought the Fancy Brick Stitch was a bit fiddly, especially the tiny stitches. I guess it is an easy stitch if you work on real canvas that is stiff and easy to count.

DeleteThe terry cloth yard looks nice. Never heard about it before. The stem stitch pulled work along with it goes well. The two canvas stitches distinctively different and lovely. the couching looks good. looking forward to this progress on fruity cushion.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to decide which project to work on when I finally have some 'me time' at the end of the day. Right now I think I am enjoying the Fruity Cushion more than Pile 'em On, but the canvas stitches are fun to learn, although sometimes difficult.

ReplyDeleteYes, as there are three types of needlework on the Pile 'em On project, and the cushion is totally different, I have a great choice when I pick up my work!
DeleteI wasn't familiar with terry cloth yarn, so I had to Google it. Such pretty yarn, it's great for couching. Love the design of your fruity cushion, it looks vintage to me.
ReplyDeleteYes, the cushion design is from 1955. In the book there are two versions, one is orange and purple on red linen cloth, the other is in yellow and mustard on green. These colour combinations ooze of 50s and 60s Scandinavian design.
DeleteThe terry cloth yarn is far too thick to penetrate the fabric so it has to be couched down.

DeleteThat's a fascinating array of stitches in your Pile em On. Someone is going to have to study that with a magnifying glass in hand! And I really love the variety in your canvas stitching too. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThe circle contains a lot of stitches in such a messy arrangement, even with a magnifying glass it will be a challenge to identify them. Should the piece survive into the far future and end up in the hands of a museum curator, she/he will have to be very patient! The canvas stitches should be a piece of cake!
