Pile 'em On
I added rough Cretan stitches for my pulled work.
Then made Buttonholed Rings for the circle.
This is how I made them:
For my Canvas work I selected three stitches:
Tent (bottom left)
Cashmere (top left)
Moorish (top right)
The light grey Coton a Broder is too thin for this gauge of the fabric...
New! Fruity Cushion
I was recently given this wonderful book
published by Hemslöjdens Förlag, and featuring Swedish embroideries from 1950's and -60's.
Among them is the pattern for a cushion called Röd Frukt (Red Fruit) designed by Ingrid Franzén-Weiss in 1955.
I thought it was time for some embroidery with linen thread,
Then promptly marked the design, mounted the fabric on a frame and got started.
The stitches are really building up on your Pile-em-on. Once again, I will be interested to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteThat new project looks interesting. I have a number of old Scandinavian books that I have collected over the years. I think I will have a look at them again.
The Canvas work will make the completion of this piece somewhere in the distant future I guess...
DeleteThe embroidery boom of the 50s and 60s was full of colour and striking graphic design. Work before that was more folksy or had an international feeling.
Can't wait to see what you do with the new Fruity Cushion. The bold, primitive pattern is tantalizing. Also, your canvas stitches are beautiful, even if the thread is too thin.
ReplyDeleteThe Canvas work is my first taster of this kind of work, I sometimes find it very confusing... but with all things, time and practice are the key ingredients if one wants to move forward.

ReplyDeleteLast night I struggled for hours with a stitch and had to unpick it several times - I just could not get the directions. Then today it was easy-peasy. Sometimes one just needs to sleep on it!

DeleteIt is a joy to see you so busy - with several projects at a time - which is quite normal among quilters and embroiderers.
ReplyDeleteYes, I just hope to find the time to work at these two projects regularly. Some days are filled with anything but 'needle and thread'.

ReplyDeleteThe canvas work will take time to finish so I just will HAVE TO find other stitches to pile on in the centre.
DeleteThe Swedish cushion has so far been fun to work on. It is now time to change colour and I am enjoying selecting a good one (hopefully!).

DeleteI remember learning how to make those buttonhole rings, but never used them. They work great on your project. The new project looks very interesting! I also took a closer look at your canvas stitches and noticed you skip a thread between the stitches. I think that's why your cotton a broder doesn't work. If you take a closer look at the stitches on my pink needlepoint sampler at Flickr you can see how I stitched them.

I am so happy you take such a close look at my work! Yes, I do skip one thread. The reason - 1) it is 32 count linen and a strain on my eyes 2) I am learning so do not want to waste thread! 3) most of the coton a broder I am using is #25 but one is #16 so different weight.
