My WIPW projects have been subject to sabotage - a broken down washing machine and rescheduled social calendar have prevented me from making any real progress.
Anyway, here is what I have done:
Swedish Cushion
Only one TAST stitch was used. #21 Knotted Cretan, but I did use it twice!, in purple and pink Perle 8.
Swedish Wool Embroidery Collar
I've come half way on this design.
knotted cretan looks good, another one for my crazy blocks. Your cushion is coming along well. But a pain the washer breaking down, hope it is fixable

DeleteOur washing machine broke too! So I started using the on-site launderette and made a wash bag especially for our laundry. Unfortunately someone stole the bag–I guess there's a moral in there somewhere!
ReplyDeleteIt is the machine of the on-site laundrette that has broken down! There was a notice on the white board yesterday about 'stolen' washing powder.... I'd rather be stitching.
DeleteCretan , I love...its one of those stitches that has so many possibilities......You can manipulate this stitch in every way and it will look different every time.......I call it a 'Chameleon' stitch ! Its so hot here in the Uk too, so its hard to get motivated with my stitching at the moment......life seems so busy, just cannot seem to get time to myself !

That is an excellent nickname for this stitch! I love the various looks you can get. Keep cool and keep stitching, other things can wait, maybe?
DeleteCretan stitch is one of my old favourites. I have done the knotted version but I would have to look up the instructions if I did it again!
ReplyDeleteI have to look up stitches ALL THE TIME! Knotted stitches all need to have a knot so you can often figure out in which way to place the thread. The problem is of course if you need to undo some stitches, then knotted stitches are troublesome!!!

DeleteYou have put so much work into this cushion and you have the patience of a saint to keep at it and the results show. What wool thread are you using on the wool piece?

DeleteThe wool used for the collar is a mixture of weights; Appleton, crewel, weaving, knitting... I wanted to use what I had, but some yarns are weak and I need to use short lengths and try to work in a bit of a twist to keep them stronger. Appleton, though is a dream to work with... wish I had more in my stash...
Don't you hate when everyday things get in the way of stitching? Progress, no matter how small, is still progress!
ReplyDeleteYes, especially when the washing machine is a communal one, and no one seems to know who is responsible for its repair. There are no launderettes in Sweden so that means washing by hand the old-fashioned way! Today I have a stitch-as-much-as-you-like day, so I hope to catch up!

ReplyDeleteIt looks so neat and holds the stitches in place, but as you have to tie a knot for each stitch it does take time. Have fun!
