TAST #110 - Rope Stitch

 This was a stitch I had been waiting for! I needed a new version of a linear stitch suitable for stems, curves or filled in work. That is just what TAST #110 Rope Stitch is. It is easy to make and quick, a real winner!

I tried it out on Aida first.

On my sampler,  I worked two lines in black and white. After that I drew a set of curves with Sharon's Crazy Quilt stencils and use variegated perle 8 to fill in the lines.

    how well this stitch works on curves, another one to use on my crazy work and love that variegated perle, what make is it please. think I need some!!

      Yes, great for cq curves.
      The rainbow coloured one is Stef Francis Perle 5 cotton (No P5 - 49) and the blue is a DMC 4022.

    It looks almost like an outline stitch, Is there a foundation stitch underneath?

      No there is no foundation stitch, and yes, it is a kind of Outline stitch but based on the Twisted Chain stitch. Easy-peasy to stitch!

    Hi Queenie, truly this is a great stitch ! I shall remember this one for scrolling tendrils......
    especially when I'm doing ' Crewel work ' ! Used as a framework in needlepoint would also look amazing ! Thanks Queenie for reminding me of this stitch........Its Bank holiday here in the UK and it is a glorious morning full of sunshine and birdsong.......Hope your day is great too !

      The Rope stitch is a delight to work with, so easy to do and results in a beautiful thick line.
      We could do with some of your weather, the sky is grey and dull today. We were shaken up this morning by a violent tremor. Luckily no damage to house or people in my family, but a reminder of how shaky the ground is here in Japan.

      I am now using the Rope stitch for quilting! It works well on curves.

    yes - the rope stitch is the answer to something I have been seeking as well :) I will use it in CQ blocks - Japan does indeed rock and roll, very thankful you are all well!

    I love your threads. I worked this stitch before in 2010 TAST I think. I had big problems with it back then. Got it all wrong.

      Once I got the hang of the movement it was easy-peasy and I just love it. If you want a really even rope like look you need to pay attention to spacing but it kind of grows by itself, very meditative!

      It can be a bit tricky to get even if you use it for a filling stitch but the result will be great. As a 'free' stitch it is very 'organic' and will grow like weed!
