For TAST stitch #109 we have a variation of last week's Rice Stitch. It is called Square Boss and is very similar.
Here again I first tried out the stitch on Aida using stranded floss:
As you can see, it is simply the placement of the stitch across the foundation cross stitch that is changed.
Here it is in Perle 8:
In the second row I changed the angle to an upright Cross Stitch.

I am also thinking about my next project....I would like to do a sampler of CQ stitches on evenweave fabric and use Bell pull ends ! I also have a yearning for some Crewel work.........Choices and decisions, what shall I do next ? Have a great day Queenie ! The Square Boss is easy and you get a lot of style with very little input.
DeleteIt will be interesting to follow your work on the bell pulls. The crewel work you have made in the past was so stunning that I long to see more of your work. Now with your son far away you will need several projects to keep your mind from brooding. Yes, Skype is great!
this stitch works well both ways, like how you have changed it Queenie, I have used this on canvas work in the past
ReplyDeleteLike any stitch it can be used anywhere and as it is so easy to do, and looks so great it is tempting to use it a lot.
DeleteI see you can change not only the angle of the stitches, but the spacing. My speciality is the running stitch and the border is going on my runner.
ReplyDeleteShould you ever wish to expand your set of stitches, this is an easy one. By changing the thread (colour or thickness) you can get great results.

ReplyDeleteThank you! I just remembered that when a cross is upright it is called St George's Cross, so basically this is not a variation of the Square Boss (as that has a CrossStitch)...
DeleteUsing different colourways make them look like different stitches as well as the slight variations.
