Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 302: Triangular Bullion Stitch

 It was in Sadako Totsuka's book 'Basic Stitches' that I found this stitch, perfect for flower petals.

Work it like this:

Come out of the fabric,


Insert the needle just next to where

the first came out. Take the needle 

out at the height of the petal.


Wrap as many loops as you want the

bullion petal to be wide.


Tighten the loops around the needle.


Hold the bullion tight with your thumb.


Pull the needle through.


While still holding the bullion, shape a

triangular loop.


Anchor the stitch to keep the bullion 

in place.


If it feels wobbly, add another anchor

stitch.


Make a few more for a real flower.

Just imagine what you can put inside the petal's void! A bead, a French Knot, a Lazy Daisy, a Seed Stitch, a Double Seed Stitch, a Fly Stitch... just about any small individual stitch would add variation.

    I have a hard time getting bullion stitches to look pretty. I've not seen this version of the bullion before. I'll look forward to seeing your homework!
