Let's learn how to make a kimono stitch!
Hoshidome Stitch （星止） is basically a Back Stitch. Each stitch is spaced widely apart on the top, leaving just a tiny dot. This will look like a star, especially when stitched with white thread on black silk. Most of the thread will of course be hidden at the back of the fabric.

ReplyDeleteIn Japanese culture was it a decorative or a practical stitch and where was it used?
ReplyDeleteOne of my books on mending calls this a sesame seed stitch. It's very good for reinforcing.
ReplyDeleteI like that it is sews tightly on the back so it only looks like a dot on the front.
