Today's stitch is not to be confused with the Crossed Buttonhole Stitch. That was a TAST stitch I learned a long time ago, 2012 to be exact.
No, the stitch I will show you today is from this Danish book
and has no proper name, it is simply called Kors bildat av 4 langetstygn (Cross made up of 4 Buttonhole stitches). I will call it Buttonhole Cross Stitch.

It is best worked on Aida where there is an easy to see grid.
You need to select a hole (here indicated with a red ring) and work four detached Buttonhole stitches around this hole.
Make a detached Buttonhole Stitch in three directions (12 o'clock, 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock):
When it is time for the fourth stitch (9 o'clock),
take the needle under the 'foot' of
the first stitch.
Anchor the needle to make the last bar.

These samplers want to be crossed!
