Friday Homework for Lesson 68: Scottish Cretan Stitch

Oh, what a lovely stitch!!!
It is easy to do, and looks good, especially on Aida or a counted weave,

maybe less so on the SSS Reference Chart, especially the brown ones, are they three dancing bugs???!!!

Nevertheless, I think this easy stitch can trick anyone into believing it is a complex one.

Doesn't it look impressive on the Linen Table Cloth?

  1. I like the stitch on the table cloth! The same stitch in orange looks very complicated, but in brown they definitely look like bugs!

  3. Bugs, trying to look like stitches so they can get out of the heat.

    1. To me they looked like some horried bugs that I don't want to have anything to do with. I'll never use brown again for this stitch!!!!

  4. It's still sometimes useful to be able to stitch a row of little bugs!

    1. This must be a great stitch to impress others with if one is ever asked to demonstrate embroidery. Making it will look so easy, yet the result shows a complex stitch that few 'non-insiders' can copy. What a snob Queenie is!

  6. This stitch looks very nice on the even weave or aida fabrics. Very orderly!

    1. I agree, it looks orderly on 'orderly' fabric, but very wild and windblown on plain weave, especially if you make uneven stitches.

  7. Yes, it is impressive on the linen, nice.
And it's very bug like in brown. I imagine tweaking it you could
have some interesting variations as a fantasy stitch too.

    1. I think this stitch has the potential to change its appearance a lot. I am wondering what Chitra will make of it - she is the Queen of Tweaking Stitches!
