Sunday Stitch School - Lesson 63: French Knotted Chain Stitch

Today let's learn another of Madam Sadako Totsuka's stitches. This is taken from her book on Chain Stitch and its variations. She has simply made a combination of the French Knot and the Chain Stitch.
Unfortunately she has not given this stitch a name, so I will un-officially call it French Knotted Chain Stitch. Should any reader of this blog ever have seen this stitch and know its name, please let me know in the comments below.

 Work it like this:
Stretch the fabric in a hoop.

Wind the thread twice around the needle to make a French Knot.


Insert the needle near where it came out, and then take the needle out a bit further down, like you would with a Chain Stitch.
Make the thread go from right to left under the needle.

Pull through and make another French Knot in the same way.


Make another combination French Knot and Chain Stitch


and another one.

 Anchor the last Chain Stitch with a French Knot.

    I like both chain stitch and French knots so I will try and remember to have a go at this. And I like the look of it.

      Did you do the TAST stitch, Knotted Cable Chain? This version is faster but the French Knot doesn't sit as tight as the wrapped KCC does.

      As long as you use a hoop it is fast and easy. Maybe something for your children's classes?

    Hoops are very useful aren't they?
    And this stitch is similar to the knotted cable chain?

      It is similar in that it is a Chain Stitch with a 'bump'. Knotted Cable Chain has a much fatter and more compact bump than that little elegant French Knot on this Sunday school Stitch.
      Some stitches just cry out for a hoop.

      In my English version of Mary Thomas's book there is Knotted Chain Stitch but it is not work in this way, however, it is a very pretty one.

      It is useful, too. It looks good on a curve, adds interest to a plain Chain etc.

    I stitched the KCC some time back but as your French Knotted Chain is different I'm going to do both on spare fabric. I'm sure your version will be quicker.
    The similarity of two stitches reminds me of your explanation of Anundsjö and how a person 'sees' it
