It has been a productive week, and here is my Work In Progress Wednesday report.
Crazy for Crazy
I finished the light teal/peach block.
I cut the red dyed canvas into a ribbon and attached it to the block with Cross Stitch.
I fastened two metal rings with Buttonhole Stitch in variegated Perle #12.
I used a pleated ribbon to make a circle.
Inside the circle I placed a button that I had covered with a Ribbed Wheel. A tutorial for this technique can be found at Kate Davies Designs.
I used Stem Stitch to outline the plum blossom design on the upholstery fabric in the middle of the block.
I made another Dorset Button.
I put the black bias tape on the edge.
Love your block it makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I enjoyed working on it, and will soon start a new one. Cq is addictive!
DeleteVery pretty. How big is this all together? I came across a number of crazy-quilt books the other day when I was looking for something else. They made me think of you.
ReplyDeleteThe block is about 7" across (17cm). I find it a good size, each seam is so short I never get bored, but can move on to the next area.
DeleteCharming! a good colour combination and variety of textures.
ReplyDeleteI like the colours too, and was lucky enough to have a a mix of texture and pattern, as well as different tread in the right colour.
Deletegreat colours! lovely details, on the whole a beautiful cq block.Your blocks are addictive!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, cq is addictive!
DeleteFun use of pleated ribbon and the button is beautiful in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI also like the lattice stitch with the sequen flowers edged in buttonhole
stitch.
Nice finish.
The ribbon was from Mum's stash so it holds memories in its folds!
DeleteSo many ideas, it’s really pretty!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Barbara xx
Thank you, I got many ideas from Sharon Boggon's book that I am using as a base, 'The visual Guide to Crazy Quilting Design'.
DeleteVery nice - I love all the details!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it is fun to think up new ways to embellish the blocks. I have good use of Sharon's book, of course!
DeleteSo many things to admire on the hexagon. I like how you left part of the threads unwound on the Dorset button.a
ReplyDeleteI love everything.
I have checked a lot of buttons on the web and Pinterest. There are SO many variations!
DeleteI love your use of hand stitched buttons
