Friday Homework for Lesson 45: Leaf Stitch

This week I completed my homework quickly.

Here are the three parts:
1) Aida sampler


2) Sunday Stitch School Reference Chart

3) Fallen leaves on wet asphalt

It is easy to get inspiration when parts of Tokyo have this look:

      The real leaves I have seen this year are torn by typhoons, damaged by rain or shriveled up. No leaves are as pretty as mine made of thread!
      The trees in the picture look nice in the distance and reflected in the pond, but up close they all look shabby.

    I love the fallen leaves and the Tokyo photo! Nothing where I live looks so beautifully fallish.

      This year the autumn foliage in Tokyo is very disappointing - most leaves are damaged by wind, rain and insects. From a distance, like in the photograph they look nice, but go close and you have a sorrow sight.

    Wow, Queenie! Love those leaves on wet asphalt! They are really beautiful, and I love your colour choices.
    Especially love the little greenish Brown one, top right ..... is that a random thread or have you mixed various colours? A great mixture of leaf shapes too!
    I couldn’t envisage how to stitch the leaves until I saw this.
    Really inspirational, I must try that on my sampler!

      Ha, ha, the greenish brown one is a mix of DMC stranded floss and metallic coppery thread.
      This stitch is easiest on a plain weave, it was harder to figure out where to insert the needle on the Aida fabric.

      The trees in the Tokyo park look great from a distance, but are weather worn when you get closer - the work of typhoons!

      One of the best trees that change colours is the sakura, cherry. In spring before the leaves come out there are the pink flowers, then light green leaves that turn dark green in summer,and in autumn go from green to orange to wine red to purple to brown and then fall off.
