Friday Homework for Lesson 30: Holbein Stitch

Teacher:   Good evening. Time to show your homework.

Student:   OK, here it is.

This is on the Aida sampler,

and this is a square I filled in on the 'floppy canvas'.

Teacher: Hmm, you haven't been very adventurous, have you?
Student:  No, I'm sorry.
Teacher:  Well, next Sunday we will have a revision lesson.
You have a new chance to show what you can do.
Student:  OK, Miss.

  1. You are not required to be wildly adventurous at all times. Holbein Stitch is so simple that mistakes show all the more, so working something straightforward to practice it is a good idea!

    1. I think Holbein stitch is very useful, both for adventure stitching and plain simple line work. Mistakes do show up easily so it is important to pay attention or train.

  2. Queenie, I like the texture of Holbein stitch and how you've used two colors showing it at its best.
I think your teacher is a bit hard on you. Don't let her crush your spirit!

    1. Yes, isn't the teacher a bitch! Rachel, see comments above, is right, though. some stitches are simple but need to be practiced as they easily show mistakes.

    2. Queenie, you are too much! I cracked up reading your reply.
Hope the Teacher calms down a bit when I finally post my stitches - I'm still far behind

    3. MY teacher is only strict with ME. I am sure she has nothing to complain about YOUR stitches!

  3. Well, my teacher ripped up my homework, saying it was too good to have been done by me so I must have copied it.

    1. There are so many teachers who should not be teachers! There has been a discussion in Sweden about that students should be able to grade the teachers! I know some who would get the lowest grades possible.

    1. You can do SO much more with this stitch. If only I had the time.... It's been a messy week!
