WIPW - No Designer Soft Furnishings for My Dolls

This is the Work In Progress Wednesday report for July 6th 2016.

Trinity Green

 I xerox copied a lot more paper strips, then stitched on 135 triangles. The total count is now 2322 triangles.



Fabric in Focus

Josef Frank was a famous and much loved architect and designer, who lived most of his life in Sweden. His usually large scale floral prints can be found in many Swedish homes, as wall paper, curtains, upholstery, tote bags ....
When I found this cotton print in Japan I instantly thought it resembled some of his designs and I could give a Josef Frank touch to my doll house furniture. Alas, I have now cut the fabric into triangles and they will end up in the Trinity Green quilt. Poor dolls, their home will have no designer soft furnishings!

More quilting. The pink crayon met a black quilting thread.
Here the quilting lines will be rough and a lot of the drawn ink lines visible. Some pink embroidery will be added later.

      You and JF have a lot in common - many of your floral designs have the same beauty. Yes, the dolls are complaining!

    When you run out of greens, I have three bins. One dark, one medium, and one light ... and that is not counting all the florals and leaf prints in other bins.

      I'll make as many as my green fabric will give me, but hope to have about 7000 or 8000 in the end.

    I love the Josef Frank print! Despite it being so patterned it still manages to look fresh and light—such a skill, but then he was a brilliant architect and designer. I can see why you're drawn to him too as you're embroidery shares some of that fun/lively/meandering quality.

      Thank you for your kind words about my embroidery. I think Josef Frank's work has inspired many designers to make something similar, hence this Japanese fabric.

    I love the unexpected 'greens' you've added, like the Josef Frank Floral print. I find my eye is drawn across the surface and picks out the unusual fabrics and they add a fun liveliness to the greens. Thanks for sharing the journey of the green quilt.

      I think the unexpected 'greens' are needed to add pizzazz to the quilt. Also I just need to use up fabric in my stash and ANYTHING with green in it will be added!

    wonderful collection of greens. the floral print looks fresh and pleasing. Doll house furnishings! each and every week your progress posts are getting interesting and interesting! the HC quilt project- are the pieces you are working with large? will they be tedious to hold them while you work?

      The HC quilt is a wall hanging made up of one piece of fabric (a whole cloth quilt) that I have drawn a picture on, then coloured with crayons and am now quiting. Later I will add embroidery details. Sorry I won't show the entire quilt yet, only smaller close ujp details.

    I do like the Josef Frank print but then I have always liked his designs. You are powering along with these pieces, you will be finished long before it gets too hot.

      Yes, it might be hot when I have completed this quilt, which might be NEXT summer. I have a LOT more triangles to stitch and then a LOT of paper to remove before I have the flimsy. Then comes the sandwiching, basting, quilting and binding.... There are still MANY steps to take.

    Thanks for sharing your 'Trinity Green' project. Good choice of new fabric to add. I'm looking forward to seeing more on your 'pink and black' with quilting stitches. It's like a novel unfolding.

    Wow! That is a LOT of triangles! How fun. I still love seeing peeks of your crayon project. The colors are fantastic!

      When you colour fabric with crayons the shades are bright and shiny. Once you set the wax with the hot iron the colours become a bit mute and dull. It can be difficult to plan a picture!
