WIPW - Not Much To Write (Home) About

It has been another busy week with little time for embroidery. My Work In Progress Wednesday report is not much to write (home) about, but here goes:

Pile 'em On
I added three columns of Canvas Fern Stitch.
They are framed on two sides by Four Sided Stitch in white that my Mum once started on this cloth. I think she intended to make a small table runner. When I first found this project amongst her belongings I thought of completing the table runner, but the tension of my stitches did not match that of hers so I turned this piece of cloth into my own free form embroidery project, Pile 'em On.

Chicken Scratch
On the 'chicken farm' the crosses are beginning to twinkle like stars...

Off to busy myself with other things than embroidery, I'm afraid.

    1. It is suddenly very cold here in Tokyo and my fingers are stiff - this will make my progress even slower!!! I heard you got a record snowfall today; it must be freezing!

  2. Pile` em on is coming along slowly and is looking so good, also liking your chicken scratch, you might not have had time to do much but every little bit helps

  3. That is how I get things done to - a few stitches at a time. They all add up.

    1. You are so right, a few stitches per day and you have made great progress in a year!

  4. Sounds like you are getting in the mood for Christmas with 'the crosses beginning to twinkle like stars'

    1. I don't know why Christmas has such a way of creeping up upon us! It's time to light the first Advent candle on Sunday. Will I have the Chicken Scratch cushion ready by the time the fourth candle is lit?

  5. Such great looking stitches on your canvas pile em on and good that you are able to make a little progress even if it isn't very much. Sometimes even if I can only just get a few minutes of stitching in I feel better about my day.

    1. I, too, feel I have had a good day even if I've managed only a few stitches. Unfortunately it takes time to take out and put away the project (to keep it safe from child, cat and senile OAP) and I feel frustrated that embroidery time is wasted.

  7. You may be short on time but no way are you short on stitching ideas. What an amazing variety you come up with.

    1. Oh, Julie, don't make me blush with shame! These are all published stitches, not a single stitch idea is mine!

  8. Queenie, you surely know how to make ordinary open weave fabric sing. The variety and placement of stitches make the cloth amazingly beautiful. I must look up canvas fern stitch. Next year I hope to do some 'teach myself' samplers of stitches of various kinds.

    1. I am trying to incorporate MY canvas stitches with the few stitches MUM made on the cloth. I hope both can 'shine'.

  11. Fun to see you're adding stitches to a project your mother started.

    1. What do you think will happen to all the UFOs we will leave behind? Will someone take over and complete the projects or turn them into their own thing, or simply dump them? Quite often you can find half finished cross stitch kits in charity shops. I've 'salvaged' quite a lot of embroidery floss that way.

Chicken Scratch is simple to do, but results in an impressive look.

  13. I love the colors and the variety of stitches you are using on the Pile 'em On piece! And I look forward to seeing your next Chicken Scratch update. (Pulled work and chicken scratch are still on my list of things to try some day. I love seeing yours!)

    1. The reason the Pile 'em On is so colourful is that I have raided my ORTS box and taken out any odd string of any colour to work with.
No real progress on the CS, I'm afraid, too many chores to take care of first... sigh.
