WIPW really works; I don't know if any of my progress this week would have happened if it hadn't been for the weekly routine, and the supportive and kind comments and suggestions by WIPW participants.

Swedish Cushion
The Swedish cushion has been sleeping all week, and is patiently waiting for a new TAST stitch to fill in some stray empty spaces. (A hint to Sharon, I am hoping for a triangular stitch... ; ) )
New WIPW - TASTy Beads Galore
As there are no beaded TAST stitches on the Swedish cushion, I have started on a new project where I want to add the TAST stitches with beads.

Do you remember the felted bluebells I had intended to use as ornaments on the strings of the collar? As they were too large, I dressed them up with some embroidery and beads, and turned them into Christmas decorations. Who's heard of Winter Bluebells?

ReplyDeleteKafferepet is a Swedish word for 'coffee party'. I have made a quilt with all the ingredients for a great (and formal) coffee drinking gathering, the buns, cakes and china. You can see a picture of the quilt top here:

ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret. I feel very happy to have completed the collar in time for the cold, have two more ornaments for Christmas and started the Beaded TAST piece at last. Hopefully Kafferepet and the Swedish cushion will be ticked off soon, too.

ReplyDeleteOh, yes, finishing the quiliting is NICE, in the end it became a bit boring. Now I have to add an edge, a hanging sleeve and a label. Then the quilt can be ticked off the list. The wrist warmers were so nice and cosy last winter and I hope the collar will be as comfortable this winter.

I'm glad you used the bells to make Christmas ornaments, they were just made for that! DeleteWhen I first realised that the bluebells were too large for the collar I was disappointed and thought I had wasted my effort - then I got the inspiration to turn them into Christmas bells, and I think that was the best destination for them.
Your fingers must be aching from all that stitching! The collar and wrist warmers look fabulous, and it's great to be able to put a face to the name after so long. Will the new project be a quick one, or something you can really get lost in?

DeleteThe new project will have the beaded TAST stitches, so that means about 10 (?) stitches, and I might do several of them at the same time, so I'll say it's a quickish project. However, I have yet ANOTHER project brewing that I can get lost in!
Oh my goodness, I am not sure where to begin. I am SO excited to see your Kafferepet is quilted and ready for the next step. It is such a lovely project! And, I just love all things with hearts, the design alone on your newest project won me over. The stitching and lovely fabric are fabulous! Your Swedish Collar and Wrist Warmers turned out SO well. And, I just love your bluebell ornaments. Lovely! What a week of accomplishments.

DeleteThe design on beaded TAST piece might have to change according to the stitches. Some of them are not suited for flowers or curvy lines, Luckily the marker is erasable so I can change the drawings.

DeleteIt is nice to make things that can actually be 'on display' so the collar was well worth the effort; too many of my ornamental pieces are in storage most of the year.

The Kafferepet quilt reflexts the Swedish coffee culture and has been great fun to make.
Although I don't know much about, and of course never have tried kasuti embroidery I do like it and admire the women who devote so much time embellishing their garments. I am sure yours will be stunning.

DeleteYes, I am pleased, too, that some things are useful and will remind me of the fun I had during the summer. Felted woollen bluebells will bring back memories of soapy water play on the Swedish west coast!

I am now working on the edge of the Kafferepet quilt and hope to tick that quilt off the list in the near future.

DeleteIt is getting colder in the morning and at night and the collar and cuffs are good to wear then and remove in the middle of the day when the temperatures go up.
