WIPW - A chart in purple

Work In Progress Wednesday, well I am sure you know what it means and does. If not read this at Pintangle.

Kafferepet
This quilt is tucked up in an old sheet, well protected from moths and humidity, until September.

Swedish Cushion
I made a curvy line, a circle and a dot on the other side of last week's work.

The following TAST stitches were used:
Curve in #32 Linked Double Chain Stitch
Circle in #20 Butterfly Chain Stitch
Circle filled with #6 Chevron Stitch
A pendant of #71 Bullion Buttonhole Stitch (one with the Bullion spokes facing inwards and one outwards. I whipped the circle to clarify.)
Five TAST stitches are ticked off my list.


TAST Reference Cloth
As I love purple I decided to work the reference stitches in DMC Perle 8 colour #552 and a greyish green #926 for the accents.
This is as far as I have worked this week; #1-#53
Having all the stitches in one place is going to be so helpful when I need to quickly find a stitch that suit what I am working on at the moment. I need a line, so I look for linear stitches, I need a circle/dot so I look for round shapes...

I am sorry to say I have had to look up a number of stitches as I could not for the life of me remember the instructions.

    That cushion is looking lovely, so many different stitches! And as to having to look up some of the stitches, I have to look up MOST of the stitches. I'm blaming old age.

      The slower I work on the cushion the more stitches I have to add!
      Some stitches are easier to remember, I, too, think age has much to do with how much we remember!

    I love your chevron stitch filling. very neat work. the bullion buttonhole stitches are lovely. I am happy to see the TAST reference cloth has progressed so well. With over hundred stitches it is normal to look for the instructions. except for few stitches, others need to be referred to. It is hard to keep track. with this reference cloth it will be easier.
    Love your progress.

    your cushion is looking so good and your reference cloth is a great idea Queenie, I would have to look up how to do a lot of these stitches too this is going to be an amazing help when wondering what stitch to use

      Actually one could take any embroidery book and work the stitches used in the book for a ref chart. A Hardanger chart, a Hedebo chart, a Brazilian embroidery chart...

    You had a very busy stitching week! Love the filling of the circle, first I thought it was a laidwork foundation. And of course you had the look up a few of the older TAST stitches, there are just too many to remember!

      If it HAD been a laidwork grid filling it would have been very Swedish indeed. Now it is a 'fake' Swedish cushion!
      How comforting to know that you too, have some stitches you can not remember!

      The earlier stitches are the easiest to remember; from now on the tempo will slow down.

    Hi Queenie, I always remember my favourite stitches of course but alas there are
    some that just elude me.........Your reference cloth is a super idea !

      It is nice to make a 'library' of TAST stitches on the chart, and then use them in a real project like the cushion.

      It IS hard to remember the name and the look of a stitch. Sometimes I do, but can absolutely not recall how to work the stitch. I hope this chart will help me.
