The second in my series of Christmas quilts is the painted stained glass quilt.
I made this quilt based on a piece of real stained glass
As you can see it is a very small piece. It was once attached to a holder (the reason there is a round hole at the bottom) for a tea light.
The quilt is larger and measures 29 x 40 cm. I painted the off white cotton with acrylic fabric paint and then set the paint with a warm iron. The outlines were quilted in black. The front was folded to the back and a backing was stitched on. There is no border, nor a binding.
It is quite pretty regardless of technique. These days you can use fused fabrics and iron-on bias but I can't think it would be any prettier.
ReplyDeletePainting a whole cloth quilt top before quilting is a 'smart' way to get quick results! Perfect for the lazy quilter!
DeleteVery pretty and so much like the small window.
ReplyDeleteI made this quilt is about 15 years ago, and can't remember for sure but I think I used a zoomed up xerox copy. The lazy quilter!
Deletethis is lovely, did not know you painted as well Queenie, a very nice addition to your Xmas decorations
ReplyDeleteI started making painted quilts some 15-20 years ago. It is such a short-cut to having a quilt finished in no time! The lazy quilter!
DeleteThe quilt is beautiful, I like the nice bright colours especially the red, it makes a lovely Christmas decoration!
ReplyDeleteWell, red IS the Christmas colour, isn't it?
DeleteSuch a beautiful quilt! Great idea to use acrylic paint, a quick way to make a quilt (or a fabric book page like I did this year).
ReplyDeleteThere is not one single seam to deal with, there is no bulk and the quilting is done in a jiffy. Great idea for the lazy quilter!
DeleteWhat a wonderful quilt! The bright colours give the quilt a special touch! Great dyeing job, Queenie!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is very Christmassy in the colour range, isn't it!
DeleteThe flowers zing. A cathedral window next perhaps?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is another good idea. Cheat-quilting by painting the piece work is a smart way to do very complicated patterns. Just the ticket for the lazy quilter!
DeleteWhat a lovely decoration. One that can be used each year.
ReplyDeleteIt is small enough to be stored for most of the year, then taken out and enjoyed for a the Christmas season.
DeleteTomorrow I will show one of the bulky quilts that take up so much storage space in the wardrobe.
beautiful quilt Queenie.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt with so bright colors
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! And all an original by Queenie makes it even more special.
