WIPW - Five more wreaths

Work In Progress Wednesday

 This is a good way to keep those needlework projects moving forward, and to share your progress with others; do some work, take a photo, write your blog and then put a link to Pintangle's WIPW page.


Christmas Mobile

 My progress this week is five medium sized wreaths.
One more to go, and then there are four small wreaths before I can assemble the mobile.

Kafferepet
Another yellow flower decorated just like the one from last week:
Whipped Buttonhole Stitch, Straight Stitch and French Knots (TAST #15)
Fly Stitch #1

Upper stem: Pekinese #31
Lower stem: Beaded Hedebo Stitch #37

Some bluebells with the following stitches: Straight, Running #10, Pistil #34, Detached Chain #7 and French Knots #15
Upper stem: Palestrina Stitch #24
Lower stem: Herringbone Stitch #5
Roses edged with Basque Stitch #27 and yellow Buttonhole Bar #65. (Oops, I've missed the one on the left!)
Upper stem: Spiked Knotted Chain #84
Lower stem: Magic Chain #43

This is what the quilt top looks like at the moment. The progress I made this week can be seen in the upper left corner.
There are eight more flowers to embellish and 18 stems to embroider to complete the border. Will I have enough TAST stitches to choose from? YES!

Swedish Cushion
The heart got another line of Spiked Knotted Chain #84, this time in light blue. Then there are some French Knots #15, and the centre on the heart is filled with Sheaf Stitches #33.

    That border is looking great and I am curious to see how those bits end up in a mobile.

      Thank you Julie.
      Once the border is done I will have a look to see if I need to add some more embellishment before I get started with the quilting.
      The mobile will (hopefully) be charming, but it might be hard to store for the part of the year when it is not on display... If I asked Father Christmas for a present, it might be more storage space...

    you have been working hard this week Queenie, it is so good to see a photo of the quilt top with your beautifully applique flowers etc on. Is it big enough for the festival of quilts as I would love to see it there next year?The mobile looks very interesting, can`t wait to see if made up, is it plastic canvas you are working on or ordinary canvas.

      Although I have managed a lot of work, the result is almost a repetition of last week's so not so interesting.
      Yes, my intention is to have Kafferepet at FOQ next summer. That means it has to be over 1 m square, and it will be with a narrow border/binding.
      The mobile is worked on paper (or card, rather) and was hard to manage until I started using the books as a counter weight. (see last week's posting)

    So much fantastic stitching! Your quilt would look stunning hanging on a wall. I don't think I could risk putting it on a bed, the cat would simply ruin it!

      It is definitely a WALL quilt; no cats are welcome on this quilt, and my bed is larger than 1 m square anyway, ha, ha!

    The quilt is stunning. It is so nice to see it in one photo, thank you. The rest of your work is going well too. I have tried the Spiked Knotted Chain and it is lovely to work!

      Thank you, Juno, for your kind words. The photo is not great and the flimsy needs a good press once the border is complete.
      I am glad to hear you like the Spiked Knotted Chain, too. Isn't it just so easy to work with? I feel as if my needle has been oiled and just stitches by itself!

      Thanks, Annet. The Spiked Knotted Chain is so fun to do I just had to add another row, mirror image. The Sheaf stitch works well as a filling I think.

      When I first came to Japan I could not understand why off-season decoration were still up (Halloween pumpkins in February etc), then I understood that in these modern 'Western' homes there is a lack of smart storage space, and of course we now have too many things. Look at the old homes how very cleverly they were made with chest of drawers that doubled up as a flight of stairs, bedding on the floor at night that could be folded away into a closet during the day, among many other smart solutions. THEN displaying things out of season was faux pas!
      I hope you are having your pumpkin bell pull on show now.

    Thank you, Jenny. I am enjoying adding TAST stitch stems to the border, and with 86 different ones to choose from - so far - it is never boring.
    I, too, hope I can understand the construction instructions for the mobile!!!

      Yes, I had time to stitch a lot this time. Two powerful typhoons forced plans to change and the result was more time to stitch!

    I love how you describe every single stitch - so one can exactly follow and also remember the stitches. I am very keen to see what is going to be with the - very beautiful - wreaths. I can't yet imagine the mobile.

      I treat my blog as a needlework diary, writing very much for my own benefit. I want to record the 'making of Kafferepet' to keep in my scrapbook, so the stitches are noted with name and number.
      The wreath mobile WILL be completed before Christmas and I actually hope to show it soon.
