TAST -144 Alternating Double Chain Stitch

I am trying to catch up on some more TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday) stitches.
To learn what TAST is, go to Pintangle.

Here is the Alternating Double Chain Stitch, which in my eyes looks like the Shell Chain (TAST#97) with the little Chain stitch on alternating sides.

To follow Sharon B's excellent tutorial and learn this stitch, click here.

As I am organizing my TAST stitch collection to suit ME, I have given it the number 144.

Don't they make you think of a chain of paper clips?

On the TAST Reference Chart it looks like this. I don't think it is a good stitch for curves...

It will go around gentle curves, I think, but they have to be very gentle!

That stitch could be used in clever ways for texture I think.
Paper clips or slippers, maybe.

I think you are right, with small stitches and gentle curves it would work out.

Slippers, eh? Yes, you are right.

This is an interesting stitch. I like it with the variegated threads.

Double stitches are always impressive.

I agree, I like the extra interest the variegated thread gives.

Love the sample in 2 colours. And I think you're right about the curves.

Would you call this Alternating Shell Stitch?

Annet said...

Yes, I think you can call it alternating shell chain stitch. Just had a quick look at my sampler from 2010 and saw I alternated the stitch there. You can take a look at it here:

A trip down Memory Lane! Although I did not 'get to know you' until TAST 2012 I have read some of your older blog posts to check up on stitches. I definitely have read this post before as I remember both the hemp and the sushi!
You work such a great number of alternatives. I like the Buttonholed Shell Stitch, especially.
