WIPW - Canvas work

This WIPW (Work In Progress Wednesday) report is only featuring:

Pile 'em On

I put all of the little time I had for needlework into this project.

First I added another flame of Pulled work, made out of rough Buttonhole stitches.
Then I made some bows out of thread, to add more structure to the centre circle.

Most of the work, however, went into the Canvas work I am trying to master.
The stitches are, from left: Twill, Double Twill, Long, Parisian
 Parisian, Florentine and Algerian Eye

Oh my, that is so very complicated and fancy

Some interesting stitches in your canvas work section. Is this in preparation for a 'large' canvas work piece?

Complicated, no not really, but you need to keep your eyes on the work and count carefully. Once you get the rhythm it gets easier.

Not yet. This is my first encounter with Canvas stitches and I am following the instructions in Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches. In my stash I have a piece of double canvas and when I reach the section of stitches suitable for double canvas I might start on a 'large' project. Until then I'll be tinkering with Pile 'em On.

Lot's of nice additons to your embroidery! Love the pulled buttonhole stitch and bows. And it's fun to see you're enjoying learning needlepoint stitches.

I was going to ask you if you use an embroidery frame but after looking at the last photo I would say you are - a round one?

It was Sharon Boggon of Pintangle who taught me that any stitch can be used for pulled work, thus these rough Buttonhole stitches.
Last night I added Tent stitch to the row of needlepoint.

On this piece I have used a hoop for almost all stitches. It is when I work Chain stitch that I feel the hoop or frame is in the way.

I AM having a good time!

This piece intrigues me more every week! I love the addition of the bows. I have never tried pulled work or canvas work, and I love the way both are turning out for you. Very fun!

It is not only usefeul but also nice to have a 'scribble cloth' where you can practise new stitches or try out new techniques. If the end result is looking good, the better!

good idea of using buttonhole stitches for pulled thread work. the bows do had texture. the canvas stitches is a fantastic idea. your canvas stitches are very neat and lovely. my favourite is Florentine. great work this week.

Thank you, I am enjoying learning new ones.

It was Sharon of Pintangle who suggested using 'ordinary' stitches for pulled work. The idea for the bows came to me when I saw a tied up piece of string in the cupboard!
The Florentine stitch is the most beautiful but I enjoyed the ALgerian Eye best. Why? Because I had such a hard time doing them when we learned TAST. This time they were easy and that made me so happy.

like the canvas work, one of my favourite techniques. Your other piece is so interesting with so many stitches etc and the bows work so very well

Hi Margaret. It has been a long time since we chatted! How have you been?
Canvas work is a first for me, and it is growing on me. Today I started on Cashmere stitch; a bit tricky at first, I hope I've got it now.

Your Pile em on is looking super! So colourful with an amazing number of stitches in it. Your canvas work is coming along wonderfully well too.
