Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2015 - 1 Partnership quilts

14th Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2015 is now on in Tokyo Dome.

Today, let me report on the Partnership quilts. You can read what these quilts are here.
The theme this year was 'Sweet', and could be interpreted as either cute and pretty, or a delicious snack.

For my own block I had selected the traditional Swedish peppermint flavoured candy stick known as 'polkagris'. This is what a real one looks like
and this is my fabric version, in sweet company.

Julie of My Quilt Diary made her sweet humming bird have a drink of sweet nectar. Please note the tiny appliquéd wings.

Tanya of By Taniwa had her sweet bumble bees flock around the sweet honey in the hexagon honeycombs.

Pamela (of Hokkaido Kudasai) made a bird that turned its back to cakes and feasted on a sweet worm instead.

People knelt down to read the text on the sweet  dandelion block by  Kippy SoMature.

Here is a handful of other blocks
 The sweet baker
 Redwork yummies
Felted whipped cream!
Why are sumo wrestlers so fat? Because they dream of ice cream!
What happens if you eat all these sweet things? Your teeth rot!
Better stick to a healthy snack like rickrack watermelon
or at least a cake topped with fresh fruit, even the ants have sweet teeth...

Next I'll report on a floral feast, until then, sweet dreams and sweet sewing.

OK "sister" Carin, you and Tanya have done an excellent job of the partnership quilts. It was fun to go back for a second look when the crowds thinned out a bit. I am always amazed at the details you manage to present. If I dilly-dally long enough, you two will cover it all.

Yes, SWEET eye CANDY, eh?

There are 70 quilts with 120 blocks each, so you can understand there are thousands of ideas for these blocks!

Tanya, Julie and I concluded that these quilts are perfect topics for conversation - so much to discover in each one.

Yes, and not one single calorie!

I thought the Partnership quilts were extra interesting this time as people had interpreted the theme as either 'pretty' or 'yummy'.
Now I have to bury my nose in a dictionary and get down to the task of interpreting the kanji writing on the labels so I can give credit to the quilters in Roman letters!! I might dilli-dally a lot!

Oh, wow. This Partnership quilt is fantastic! You and your friends made lovely 'sweet' blocks. I cannot imagine how much time must have gone into the hand quilting on this beauty. Thank you so much for sharing!

We mustn't forget to brush our teeth after gobbling up all these sweets. What to do with the mountain of calories? Climb a mountain?

Please note, Partnership quiltS. There were in total, 69 of them. It is so popular to send in these 20x20 cm blocks that almost 70 quilts can be made (there are 120 blocks in each quilt). One volunteer per quilt does the hand quilting. Much time is needed, that's for sure.

It's great to these interpretations of the theme, thanks for sharing! I'm sorry I didn't submit a block, maybe I can make time this year.

Thank you for posting these and showing my little block!

More to come, I promise!

Oh, I just wish I was clever and creative enough to enter a large quilt. However, only the top of the cream can enter, after strict judging. The partnership block are all accepted though.

Queeniepatch said...

Oh, please do!

Queeniepatch said...

My pleasure, but I would have enjoyed it even more if you had been there with me.
