WIPW - Late 'weeds'

I try to publish my Work In Progress Wednesday reports on a Wednesday, but it is now Thursday. I am late, and what do I have to report? Some weeds!

Swedish Wool Embroidery Collar
The 'weed' has sprung up between the main flowers on the collar.

Half the collar is still free from weed, but hopefully, by next week Wednesday they have spread all over the place.

Not a WIP but...
This can not be called Work In Progress as it was a new project started and completed in  90 minutes.
I made another stumpwork portrait:
Her scarf is a scrap of fabric from a pocket of an old suitcase.
The hair is a lock of fleece for felting that I picked up from this selection at a felting workshop:

Adorning my scissors
A stitch-less WIP was adorning my good embroidery scissors with the lovely scissor fob I was given by  Pamela.

Finding a place for...
My final WIP was finding a home for these 'stow-aways' that somehow sneaked into my suitcase.

By next Wednesday I hope to have some progress on the shelved projects; Kafferepet and The Swedish Cushion.
To see what other needleworkers have been up to, go to Pintangle. There is also some information  about Sharon's newsletter.

with weeds like these I would be happy to have them popping up all over my garden Queenie. Your stumpwork is lovely so beautifully done and how quick you were to complete her. Safe flight home with all your goodies and see you next year.

That collar is delicious and I love all your other work. Have to say I envy you the scissor fob and am so glad to know that fairies put things in your suitcase. I thought they only picked on me.

There's a saying…weeds are only flowers growing in the wrong place. Your 'weeds' are so pretty, and I look forward to seeing them grow. Will the collar be attached to a coat, or jacket, or is it a stand alone item that can be worn with anything?

I know weeds are seen as unwanted plants in a neatly kept garden but many of them are really lovely flowers!
I have made so many stumpwork portraits that the work is fast, but still fun. This lady is even lovelier than the photo shows (it is slightly out of focus). Alas I can not take another photo as she now lives in someone else's home.
I am now back in Tokyo trying to find a good storage solution to my threads.

Thanks for your kind words, Carolyn. Those fairies not only helped me pack my suitcase, they went shopping with me and must have added things to my shopping basket behind my back. Luckily they also led me to bargain sales and stalls with hard to find (in Japan) items.
Please get better from your cold, soon!

That is a true saying! Many weeds are too pretty to be pulled up or poisoned to death. On the other hand, they might not belong to a manicured garden, and will try to take it over, so I can see the point of weed control.
The collar will be lined on the back, have a fringe of tufted yarn and two cords that will tie it together. It will be a stand alone item to be worn with jumpers or cardigans to add colour and warmth.

Wonderful progress! I'm so glad you like the fob.

Your stump work portraits just make me smile and this one looks like a real Lady. Luscious threads in your stowaway collection. Hope the weather is starting to cool off a bit in Tokyo. Fall is on its way!

I don't like the fob - I love it! Thank you for your kind gift.

The most wonderful thing with these portraits is that you never know what they will look like. Especially the mouth, here a simple straight stitch, can make the lady look charming, radiant, full of life or grumpy, sour, hurt or angry!
It was cooler yesterday than today so the weather has not settled into autumnal mood yet.

I like your pretty weeds and look forward to seeing them spread. It's a long time since I did stump work but you have given me an idea to try it out again. You are not sending the 'stow aways' back then !?! lol

Well, since the weeds have flowers, just wait a bit and the seeds will take over the other areas.

Stumpwork portraits are fun; a nice mix of doll-making, appliqué and embroidery.
The 'stow-aways' passed customs and immigration so why not let them stay? There are plenty of playmates in my thread stash!

That is the beauty of weeds gone to seed! Self stitching wool flowers!

This is one weed you don't need to get rid of it fits in just beautifully with your design. The hair on your little portrait looks so real, is the face somebody that you know?

Well, they are the most gorgeous weeds that I have ever laid my eyes on Queenie ! !
Is the stumpwork portrait of a person you know ? She is rather glamorous, love her red hair ! Your scissor fob was such a beautiful gift...very elegant ! Stowaways.....I have them hidden in every nook and cranny in my house..........I wonder how they get there.........ummmm.............

Elizabeth said it (see above): Weeds are flowers growing in the wrong place, but these weeds are in just the right place, I think!
No, I don not know the lady in the portrait; she just popped up, like a weed!
As long as the stowaways don't go into hiding in our nooks and crannies, but make themselves available and join in our thread play, they are welcome to stay!

It is hot and humid in Tokyo - the perfect condition for weed to grow rapidly!
The lock of curly fleece is just right for dressing these portraits, but the lady is not a picture of anyone I know, she just turned up under the needle!

your weeds are lovely and the stumpwork portrait is beautiful.

The weeds on your collar looks much nicer than the ones in our garden! Love your new stumpwork lady.

Thank you, Séverine, for always giving me a lot of encouragement.

Weeds often ARE beautiful, but they grow so fast and spread so rapidly...
