TAST #51 Raised Herringbone Band

This week the TAST stitch, Raised Herringbone Band, was perfect to work onto my sampler band. Instead of making a project or thread play I simply made three different combinations with this: a slightly curly woollen thread in orange, a variegated blue-green perle cotton #5 and a purple loosely woven rayon ribbon with silver from Art Fibre Endo, a tread maker in Kyoto.

Which do you like best?
Aida is not such a good choice for Satin stitch and there is too much white fabric showing through in the middle row with perle, I think.

To learn about TAST, take part if you want to, and it is great fun, and to see what other wonderful things have been created with this stitch, head over to Pintangle.

By the way, this is what I bought from the AFE stand at the Quilt show:

They really do have a lot of eye candy thread!

You have some lovely threads there and I think I like the bottom band best. (don't try and say that to quickly.)

Yes, you have bought beautiful threads and I'm looking forward what you will do with them.
Great use of this week's stitch, Queenie! I don't think that the Satin stitch in the middle is not so good because the Herringbone stitch row above is a real eye catcher.

Queenie, all these differet threads look so nice ...in your samples, for me, I prefer the row with the variegated blue-green with orange and purple colors:)
Have a nice day,
Isa

That would be a tongue-twister!

You're quite right. When comparing similar things one always stands out.
The thread will be used for the Sumptuous Surface Embroidery course, which I am lucky enough to have booked early, it is now full with a long waiting list, it seems.

Personally I think the last one has most contrast and the individual threads are clear.

Well I think I prefer the bottom one but that might be because I don't usually go for orange. Having said that I like them all. I was going to do my sample on aida but I may reconsider now since reading your comments.

If you want a stripy look, Aida is good but I think the Satin stitch looks best on a more tightly woven fabric.

I see what you mean about the aida Queenie, I will try mine on 28ct evenweave, maybe I will get on with it today. all your samples have workes well. It is good to see threads I have not come across before

I like the thread you used for the satin stitch in the bottom row. I know what you mean about Aida and satin stitch. That's why I had to come up with another sampler, but I found an old one with enough space for my experiments. Your new threads are gorgeous!

Difficult to say which I like best - they are all very nicely stitched. As blue-green is my favorite colour - I would say the middle is most appealing to me. I lke your photos of the threads.

I love the middle one. And the threads. I'll have to goggle Art Fiber Endo to check them out!

Take care,
Mary

I left space between the satin stitches, too. Lots of variation possible in that part of the stitch if you let go of tradition!

Very nicely done Raised Herringbone stitches. I like the contrast of the top row the most and the threads you purchased look wonderful! Bet you'll have fun using them.
